Tabla (Lounge Chair)

Reclaimed meets Modern in a chair that embodies both indoor & outdoor seating

About This Project

The Tabla Lounge/Patio chair was designed for the Groovystuff by Design Challenge. Groovystuff is a furniture manufacturer out of Dallas, Texas. Specializing in unique home furnishings from reclaimed and sustainable sources this company approached my Furniture Design class at Columbia College Chicago. The task: to design a furniture piece to fit in with the current Dick Idol collection using reclaimed teak wood and other materials from Asia.

Requirments for the design challenge included: creating a display board to be showcased behind the piece at the High Point Market. Creating a quarter scale model of the end design to be showcased on a pedestal at the show. The last requirement was to then use at least one of the materials provided to the class at the beginning of the semester.

Furthermore, the Tabla chair received many requests for quoatations at the High Point Market, which then led the Tabla chair to go underway with changes to design to allow for a better way of manufacturing.
